Learn German Disney-Style: Cinderella’s Castle and More

Neuschwanstein, "Cinderella's Castle"Like the castle?  The locals in Bavaria, Germany, call it a Schloss.  This Schloss, called Neuschwanstein, was the inspiration for the castle in Disney’s classic animated feature, Cinderella.  Perhaps you recognize it’s wannabes from the Magic Kingdom or Disneyland.

You can learn some more German vocabulary words by playing the Learn the Lingo online matching game at Disney’s Junior Adventurers website.  Players get four chances to match all of the English-German words.  Every correct match becomes a language lesson, as kids can hear the words pronounced alone, or contextualized in a sentence.

Here’s a little “cheat sheet” of German terms from “Learn the Lingo”:

Schloss – Castle

Prinzessin – Princess

Garten – Garden (as in “kindergarten”)

Geschichte – History

Ferien – Vacation

Zug – Train

Gaststätte – Restaurant

Wurst – Sausage (as in knockwurst, bratwurst, etc.)

Nachtisch – Dessert

Köslich – Delicious

Enjoy a Disney-style German lesson with your kids!
