Snow in French, Spanish, German, and More
It’s snowing. It’s mid-November, our yard is covered with leaves patiently waiting to be raked and placed into bags, and it’s snowing. Sticking, too. Though we had a few melty flurries already this season, this is the first official arrival of the white stuff here in Michigan.
In honor of our first flakes, learn how to say “snow” in these foreign languages:
neige (French)
nieve (Spanish)
neve (Portuguese and Italian)
Schnee (German)
sneeuw (Dutch)
What other words do you know for “snow”? Please leave a comment and share some more languages! (Just don’t rub it in if you live somewhere warm and sunny.)
I’m trying to forget the fact that it’s November and my leaves are covered with la neige. Hmm . . . I wonder if that makes for more slippery sledding? The adult me may be screaming, “Too early! Make it stop!” but the kid in me is excited. There’s something magical about the first snow. Remember that wonder and watch this charming video about a French snowman . . . un bonhomme de neige. And let me be the first to wish you a happy winter!
