Guest Post: Kay Nord, Author of Tim y Kim
I am pleased to introduce you to Kay Nord. She’s a mom and the author of a new book to help kids learn Spanish. She’s writing today’s post. Take it away, Kay!
“My book is geared towards teaching children Spanish only with a twist – specifically Mexican Spanish. This bilingual children’s storybook is called Tim and Kim; Tim y Kim. Growing up in a bilingual home with a Mexican mother and American father, it has been a real benefit to speak two languages. Now being a new mother myself, I found that all of the book options available for me to read to my son in Spanish were all translated in traditional castillian/Spain Spanish making consistency difficult between the oral Spanish I was teaching him and the written Spanish. My goal with this first book is to help parents to have options when it comes to teaching their children Spanish.
Although my focus is to enhance cross-cultural communications using the language of a bordering country, I feel that teaching our American children other languages is vital regardless of the language. It is a real asset to be bilingual in this global economic world we live in. The minds of young children are so capable of learning multiple languages easily – it is the time to start teaching them! I simply believe in choices when it comes to educating our children. This is a book I feel will appeal to parents like us.”
Thank you, Kay, for your motivating message about raising our kids to be bilingual.
