Learn Spanish and French Christmas Vocabulary: Tic Tac Toe Games and More

It’s December!   The tree is trimmed, the lights are up, and my kids opened the first door on their chocolate advent calendars.  Why, there’s even a winter wonderland of snow outside my window.  Now it’s time to learn some Christmas vocabulary in Spanish and French.  You can practice your new words by playing fun and festive games of Christmas Tic Tac Toe, the newest downloads from Foreign Language House.  Choose from:

Also, beginning language learners of all ages will enjoy reading about “Santa’s Visit” in both Spanish and French.  These downloads include everything you need to develop language-rich activities for listening, speaking, reading, and writing.  You’ll find stories, flash cards, songs, writing activities, and even a color-by-number.

I love your posting! I wanted to add that I use some games we play in South America in my Portuguese and Spanish Classes. My favorites are amigo secreto, everybody will bring a gift and we will try to find out who the person’s secret friend is. We also color pages with Santa, Papa Noel and el reno…..another game children love is magic snow, la nieve magica; I make small white balls and I throw them in different parts of the classroom they have a basket and they need to pick the snow up and count the balls in Spanish. We sing jingle Bells, Silent Night and other songs in Spanish and Portuguese as well and I teach them about differences between the holiday here and in a Spanish or Portuguese speaking Countries.

Claudia, I just love all of your ideas. Especially the magic snow. I think I’ll try that with my pre-k’s. Thanks for stopping by!

I love the idea of using multicultural education and incorporating other languages in the classroom. Unfortunately I don’t speak French or Spanish, but I speak Latvian, Russian, and Bosnian/Serbian languages. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year in Latvian would be: Priec?gus Ziemassv?tkus un laim?gu Jauno gadu. In Russian it would be: ? ?????????? ????????? ? ? ??????????? ????? ?????, and in Bosnian/Serbian: Cestit Bozic i Sretna Nova godina!
Happy Holidays to you all!!!

Sorry, I should not have used Russian and Latvian alphabet… =(

Hello Diane,

I was reading your post and then I thought… here in Canada now, believe it or not, we don’t use either Christmas tree or arbre de Noël any longer… c’est dans le cadre des accommodements raisonnables (reasonable accommodation)… now we talk of Holiday tree and arbre des Fêtes… no more Christmas parties or soirées de Noël… now it’s called whatever you want but without the words “Christmas” and “Noël”… c’est triste…

Speaking of Holiday, crois-le ou non, I had to write a tutorial on how to post a comment in response to my Holiday Giveaway! :-( I realized most of my readers are civil servants who probably don’t read blogs (other than mine) and even less comment!… my email inbox was full of questions regarding how to post a comment…

Oh well… I’m a teacher so… writing a tutorial wasn’t so bad!

À la prochaine!

Hi Hannah! Thanks for stopping by and adding some languages to the holiday wishes. I wish I could include more languages with the different alphabets. I’m always thrown by my keyboard! Happy Holidays to you too :-)

Lyne, I’m afraid the same is true here in the U.S. . . . the disappearance of “Christmas” from the holiday. But I’m stubborn and refuse to change. BTW, I have every intention of entering your contest. OMG, those prints are to die for! I’ll be by soon!
