Easter Words in American Sign Language and Foreign Languages
Here’s a nice Easter vocabulary video clip in American Sign Language from EverydayASL.com. Not only is ASL a language in its own right, but I’m starting to experiment with teaching foreign languages to young learners along with ASL. Just imagine . . . kids learning multiple ways to communicate at the same time, with the ASL helping to reinforce the meaning of the new spoken language. Cool! Not all concepts or ideas in every language will work with ASL, but a lot will. For years, I have been a strong believer in the power of teaching through movement. Some kids are kinesthetic learners, of course, but I think ALL kids benefit when meaning is attached to gesture. I’m adding ASL to the long list of languages I want to learn. Looks like EverydayASL.com is a fantastic place to start. Enjoy the video, and try signing while saying the words in Spanish, French, German, or any other language you know.
Happy Easter!
