Learn Spanish Beach Vocabulary at Foreign Language Friends

The Foreign Language Friends Spanish-learning website continues to be a favorite at our house. My 3 (almost 4) year old loves to learn along with the colorful animations.  It’s the perfect way for me to spend time with my child playing in Spanish . . . especially since I don’t speak Spanish myself.  We watch animations, play games, sing songs, and then print off coloring sheets to do together.  It’s been an effective way for me to learn Spanish, too!

The themes include:  Shapes, Body Parts, Colors, Transportation, Zoo Animals, Family, Food, Farm Animals, Sea Animals, Sports.  I’m excited about a new theme has been added that’s perfect for summer . . . At the Beach!  Here are a few of the words you’ll learn:

At the beach – En la playa

sand castle – el castillo de arena

beach ball – la pelota

towel – la toalla

pail – el balde

shovel – la pala

After spending some time with Foreignlanguagefriends.com, you can play some beach-themed activities to extend the learning:

1.  Toss a beachball to practice counting in Spanish.

2.  Toss a beach ball and when you catch it, identify the colors under your thumbs.

3.  Gather an assortment of beach gear in various colors.  Have your children close their eyes as you hide one item in a beach bag or under a beach towel.  Can they guess what’s missing?

4.  Make sand castles to label by using card stock, glue, and craft sand.

5.  Use the new pail/shovel vocabulary while playing in the sandbox.

6.  Play a chanting add-on game.  Clap “En la playa, en la playa” and add on one item at a time, repeating the previous words with each verse.  Say “Yo traigo . . . ” (I’m bringing.)
