French and Spanish Halloween PowerPoint: Sabrina the Black Cat Story

black cat
Need a fun and simple Halloween story for a beginning French or Spanish learner? Look no further than Sabrina the Black Cat,  a short storytelling/reading unit by Foreign Language House. Sabrina is a happy, little black cat who just happens to live in a haunted house with some sweet but spooky friends. The story is written in simple, present tense French that just begs to be acted out through Total Physical Response (TPR.) This holiday reading is simple enough for novice-level students to enjoy and comprehend with success!

In the Sabrina download that we published last year, you’ll find picture flashcards for Halloween vocabulary and rooms of the house–perfect for fun vocabulary games.  In addition, there’s a handy listing of all of the nouns, verbs, and adjectives used in the story.  The story is presented four different ways: French or Spanish w/English, French or Spanish only with illustrations, CLOZE (fill-in-the-blank), and as a mini-book to be illustrated.  In the unit, we’ve also included some simple Sabrina songs to help reinforce language and meaning. Comprehension activities round out this short holiday unit and make it a must for either FLES or funloving level 1 students.

NEW this year . . . we just created a PowerPoint version of the Sabrina story.  There are three parts: 1) story, 2) vocabulary identification, and 3) question/answer. Perfect as a stand-alone activity, or as an accompaniment to the Sabrina download. 42 slides!
