Use Silly Bandz to Learn Foreign Languages
So, are your kids swept away with the Silly Bandz craze yet? I just read this article from Time Magazine about schools beginning to ban the colorful, fun rubber band shapes. Personally, I love them! Here at the “Foreign Language Fun House” I’m taking full advantage of my kids’ obsession. First, I sprung for a couple of bags to use as behavior incentives. The boys have got to work hard to earn them, one rubber band at a time. Then I started to consider all of the language possibilities dangling on those little wrists. There’s so much to talk about in a foreign language:
- colors
- numbers
- preferences
- comparisons
- animals & objects galore
- how to negotiate a trade
So, if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em! Ride the wave of the craze and use the excitement to motivate your kids to talk in French, Spanish, German, Mandarin, and more!
