You can learn some more German vocabulary words by playing the Learn the Lingo online matching game at Disney’s Junior Adventurers website.  Players get four chances to match all of the English-German words.  Every correct match becomes a language lesson, as kids can hear the words pronounced alone, or contextualized in a sentence.

Here’s a little “cheat sheet” of German terms from “Learn the Lingo”:

Schloss – Castle

Prinzessin – Princess

Garten – Garden (as in “kindergarten”)

Geschichte – History

Ferien – Vacation

Zug – Train

Gaststätte – Restaurant

Wurst – Sausage (as in knockwurst, bratwurst, etc.)

Nachtisch – Dessert

Köslich – Delicious

Grazing on tapas with my friends is one of my fondest memories of visiting Spain several years ago.  Don’t even get me started on the garlic shrimp! 

Introduce your kids to the food, language, and culture of Spain with tapas.  First, visit Disney’s Junior Adventurers website and play the Find Those Tapas game.  You’ll enjoy the sights and musical sounds of Spain as you hunt for these tapas:

Calamares Fritos – fried squid rings

Paella – saffron rice dish with fish, seafood, or meat

Mejillones – mussels

Abla Serrana – cured meat and cheese plate

Aceitunas – olives

Bombas – fried meat and potato ball

Canape – small open-faced sandwich

Champiñones al Ajilo – mushrooms in garlic and sherry

Chorizo – cured spicy sausage

Today, let’s take a look at Disney’s Junior Adventurer Build Your Own Gargoyle game.  Gargoyles are the monstrous looking creatures that carry rain water off of gothic cathedrals, such as Notre Dame in Paris.  Teach your kids some French body parts vocabulary as they construct their very own gargoyle.  

Pedestal = le piédestal

Body = le corps

Wings = les ailes

Eyes = les yeux

Mouth = la bouche

Horns = les cornes

Gargoyle = la gargouille

Follow this link to learn FOREIGN LANGUAGE BODY PARTS GAMES.

When your kids have had their fill of gargoyle-construction, print off a French map to color from the “Getting Ready” tab of the site.  Enjoy a French Disney Adventure, if only in your imagination.
